Gemology – Citrine (SiO₂) is an orange to deep gold variety of quartz that is often appreciated for its sunlight tones. It occurs naturally where quartz crystallizes with inclusions of iron. It has a hexagonal crystal structure and is a 7 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. Citrine is created when Amethyst is heated above 900 degrees Fahrenheit for several hours.
